Guidelines for Registration on National Scholarship Portal


How to Apply NSP Scholarship?

Students applying for scholarship for the first time (Fresh Students) need to "Register" on the portal as fresh applicant by providing accurate and authenticated information as printed on their documents in the "Student Registration Form".

The registration form is required to be filled by parents / guardian of students who are below the age of 18 years on the date of registration.

Documents Needed for NSP Scholarship

Before initiating registration process, students / Parents / guardian are advised to keep the following documents handy:

  • 1. Educational documents of student
  • 2. Student's Bank account number and IFSC code of the bank branch Note: For pre matric scholarship scheme, where students do not have their own bank account, parents can provide their own account details. However, parents account number can only be used against scholarship applications for maximum two children.
  • 3. Aadhaar number of the Student
  • 4. If Aadhaar is not available, then Bonafide student certificate from Institute / School and
  • 5. Aadhaar Enrolment ID and Scanned copy of Bank passbook
  • 6. If Institute/School is different from domicile state of the applicant, then Bonafide student certificate from Institute / School.

GUIDELINES FOR THE CENTRAL SECTOR SCHEME OF SCHOLARSHIP FOR COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

 

1.              OBJECTIVE: -

 

To provide financial assistance to meritorious students from low income families to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies.

 

2.              SCOPE: -

 

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of the results of Senior Secondary Examination. 82000 fresh scholarships per annum [41000 for boys and 41000 for girls] are awarded for pursuing graduate / postgraduate studies in colleges and universities and for professional courses, such as Medical, Engineering etc.

 

3.              ALLOCATION OF SCHOLARSHIPS: -

 

The total number of scholarships are divided amongst the State Education Boards based on the State‟s population in the age group of 18-25 years, after segregating share of CBSE and ICSE on the basis of number of students passing out from various Boards in the country.   50 % of the scholarship is earmarked for girls. The number of scholarships allotted to a State Education Board is distributed amongst pass outs of the Science, Commerce and Humanities streams in the ratio of 3:2:1. In case of shortfall in the number of applications, the scholarship slots could be inter-changed.

 

4.              ELIGIBILITY

Students who are above 80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream from the respective Board of Examination in Class XII of   10+2 pattern or equivalent and pursuing regular courses (not correspondence or distance mode) in Colleges/Institutions recognized by All India Council of Technical Education, UGC Act, 1956, Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India and respective regulatory authorities and not availing benefit of any other scholarship scheme including State run scholarship schemes/Fee waiver and

reimbursement scheme are eligible under the scheme. Students pursuing Diploma courses are not eligible under the scheme.


5.              RESERVATION

Students belonging to reserved categories/weaker sections /minorities are eligible on the basis of merit, subject to Central Reservation Policy and internal earmarking. Reservations for the various categories are as follows : Scheduled Castes (SCs) 15 % , Scheduled Tribes ( STs) 7.5 %, Other Backward Classes(OBCs) 27 % and horizontally 5 % for Physically Handicapped / Persons(s) with Disabilities (PwDs) in all the categories.

 

6.              ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SCHEME AND SELECTION PROCEDURE

1)              National Scholarship Portal (NSP) www.scholarships.gov.in will be opened for online application in the month of June-July every year.

 

2)              Class XII pass out students of the current Academic Year, who are above 80th percentile of the respective State Education Boards (SEBs) are eligible under the scheme and can apply on National Scholarship Portal (www.scholarship.gov.in), before the cut-off date. Physical application would not be accepted.

 

3)              The online applications would be verified at two levels:

(i)    By the Institute where the student is studying.

(ii)  By the respective State Education Board.

 

4)              Applicant is required to submit requisite documents, such as [ Class 12th mark sheet, Income Certificate] to the Institute.

5)              Application which is not verified either by the institute or by the concerned State Education Board or by both will be treated as „Invalid‟.

 

6)              Merit list as per the State allocated quota would be generated from the verified applications.


 

7.              RATE OF SCHOLARSHIPS:

The rate of scholarship is Rs.10000/- per annum at Graduation level for first three years of College and University courses and Rs.20000/- per annum at Post- Graduation level. Students pursuing professional courses, in case, where the duration of course is five (5) years/Integrated course would get Rs.20000/- per annum in the 4th and 5th year. However, students pursuing technical courses such as B.Tech., B.Engg would get scholarship up to graduation level.

 

8.              PARENTAL INCOME CEILING:

The parental/family income ceiling is Rs. 8 lakh per annum for all categories under the scheme and would be applicable from the Academic Session 2018-19. Income certificate would be required for the fresh applicants only.

 

9.              DURATION OF SCHOLARSHIPS AND ITS RENEWAL

A student will be eligible for the scholarship for a total duration not exceeding 5 years. A scholarship under the scheme is renewable on year to year basis up to Post Graduate level in the same stream (except for the students pursuing technical courses leading to degree at graduation level).

 

If a scholar is unable to appear in the annual examination owing to illness and or on account of any unforeseen event, the award may be renewed for the next academic year on submission of medical certificate and other proof to satisfy the Head of the Institution who will certify that the student would have passed with required percentage of marks or equivalent Grade Point Average, had he/she appeared in the examination.

 

A scholar would be allowed to continue/renew his/her scholarship if, he/she changes the course of study to a stream not offered by his school Board in Class XII (e.g. Law, Fashion Technology, etc.). Students changing their college/institute of study would be allowed to continue/renew the scholarship provided the course of study and the institution is recognized.

 

10.           For receiving scholarship benefit under Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students,   an individual shall furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar or undergo Aadhaar authentication. Till the time Aadhaar is assigned to the individual, following alternative identifiers can be used:-

  • (i)            Aadhaar Enrolment ID slip
  • (ii)          Application made for Aadhaar enrolment
  • (iii)        Voter identity card
  • (iv)        Permanent Account Number
  • (v)          Passport
  • (vi)        Driving License

(vii)      Certificate of identity having photo of such member issued by a Gazetted Officer or a Tehsildar on an official letter head; (viii)     Identity Card issued by the college or institute or university.

(viii)   Any other document with photo specified by the State Government:

 

Further, the students are required to have the bank accounts opened, especially, in their name for availing the benefits under the scheme. The scholarship will be disbursed directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. The student can track their payment status from the template Know Your Payment” in the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) portal [ https://pfms.nic.in/Users/LoginDetails/Login.aspx] either by indicating Aadhaar number or bank account number.

 

11. PROCEDURE FOR RENEWAL OF SCHOLARSHIP

For students of Academic Year 2021-20 (up to 3rd renewal)

Students who have passed Class XII in the Academic Year 2008-09 to 2014-15 (up to 3rd renewal) are required to obtain the renewal application blank form from the respective State Education Boards and submit the same duly certified from their respective institutions which is required to certify:


(a)            that the student has secured 60 % or more marks in the previous exam,

(b)           that the student has 75 % attendance and

(c)            that the student is not involved in any ragging activities.

 

For students of 4th renewal (Offline)

Students who have passed Class XII and have received fresh/renewal scholarship through the State Education Board concerned, are required to obtain the renewal application blank form from the respective State Education Boards and submit the same duly certified from their respective institutions which is required to certify:

(a)  that the student has secured 50 % or more marks in the previous exam

(b)  that the student has 75 % attendance and

(c ) that the student is not involved in any ragging activities.

 

For students of Academic Year 2015 and onwards through National Scholarship Portal

Students who have passed Class XII and have received fresh/renewal scholarship through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) must apply online in the National Scholarship Portal (www.scholarships.gov.in) for the renewal scholarships. The 50 % and above criteria will be applicable prospectively i.e. for renewals becoming due from 2018-19 onwards.

 

Renewal applications sent directly to the Ministry of Human Resource Development shall not be accepted.

Form Fill Up Instruction NSP Scholarship

Brief instructions for filling up the online Application Form are given below (Fields marked with * are Mandatory fields):

1. Date of Birth (DOB)* Provide DOB as printed in educational certificates.
2. State of Domicile*

Domicile state means the state in which students have their permanent address.

Students are required to provide their domicile state correctly as the "Application Id" allotted to them will be based on domicile state. This application Id will also be used as "Login Id" on the portal and for future references.Once allotted the student will not be allowed to change the domicile State under any circumstances.

The student needs to provide a Bonafide Certificate in the prescribed proforma if the Students domicile state is different from the state of Institute/School, he/she is studying.

3. Scholarship Category*

Scholarship schemes are divided in following major categories described below (Students are required to select the relevant category based on their class/course in which they are studying):

2.1 Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme: For students studying from Class 1st to Class 10th.

2.2 Post - Matric Scholarship scheme/Top Class Scholarship Scheme/Merit Cum Means Scholarship Scheme: For students studying from Class 11th, 12th and above including Courses like ITI, B.SC, B. Com., B. Tech, Medical /students studying top level colleges such as IITs and IIMs/ students doing Technical and Professional courses etc. (Attach a hyperlink mentioning details of schemes of different Ministries)

4. Name of Student*

Provide name as printed in educational certificates. For students applying for Post Matric, Top Class and MCM scholarship scheme preferably provide name as printed in class 10th certificate.

For students providing Aadhaar number to ensure that your name is correct in your Aadhaar card.

5. Mobile Number*

Provide correct and authenticated mobile number, as all the communications and One-time passwords related to portal activities will be sent as SMS on this mobile number.

  • (i) In case of Post Matric, Top Class and MCM scholarship scheme only one registration is allowed with one mobile number.
  • (ii) For pre-matric scholarship scheme, where students do not have mobile number, parents' mobile number can be provided. The parents' mobile number can only be used for filling scholarship applications for maximum of their two children only.
6. Email Id Provide correct and authenticated email id, as all the communications and One-time passwords related to portal activities will be sent on this email Id.
7. Bank account details

Provide active bank account number and IFSC code of the bank branch of the student. The name of bank will be automatically mentioned based on your IFSC code. If not, then write it as printed on the bank passbook.

In case of Post Matric, Top Class and MCM scholarship scheme one registration must be done with one bank account number.Whereas, for pre matric scholarship scheme, where students do not have their own bank account number parent's account number can be used. However, parent's account number can only be provided for maximum of their two children.

8. Identification Details

Select and provide the information in this field very carefully. You are required to select one of the following methods for identification details:

7.1 Aadhaar Number: Students who have Aadhaar number are required to provide 12-digit Aadhaar number as printed on Aadhaar card.

Upon submitting the registration form, the system will match the personal identification details of the applicant with the Aadhaar records.

Only one registration is allowed with one Aadhaar number. However, if multiple applications of a student are found in the system at a later stage, all his/her applications are liable to be rejected.

It may be noted that your Aadhaar Number could also be used for crediting scholarship amount in the bank account linked* to your Aadhaar number in fast track mode.

For all such cases, where student does not possess Aadhaar, he is required to provide a bonafide certificate issued by his Institute/School in the prescribed proforma along-with Aadhaar enrolment number and scanned copy of first page of his Bank passbook (containing the photograph of the applicant)

*To link your bank account with Aadhaar number for receiving scholarship in the same, please visit you bank branch and submit a "bank consent form for receiving DBT". You can check which bank is linked to your Aadhaar number on NPCI mapper here https://resident.uidai.gov.in/bank-mapper or through Aadhaar-enabled micro-ATM machine of any of these banks.


Important Note Form Fill up NSP

1. After submitting the application, the default login id and password to log into NSP portal will be sent to the provided mobile number. In case the password is not received, the option for forgot password at login page shall be used.

2. Students are advised to provide "Annual Family Income" as per the Income Certificate issued by competent authority in their scholarship application.
